Companions of the Melanesian Brotherhood
Tavistock has a branch of the Companions of the Melanesian Brotherhood which seeks to support the church in Melanesia.
2015 was a rather quiet time for the Tavistock Companions but we did manage a couple of meetings to discuss fund raising and we had a talk/slide show from Alex Leger a former producer of Blue Peter. It was agreed that we send £300 to the disaster relief fund after the news that a second major flood had taken place destroying all that had been rebuilt from the first one. We will continue to add to our funds and send off as requested.
We said a sad farewell to Jo Holloway who stood down as Section Leader. Best wishes and a big thank you go to her and we hope she has a quiet and restful retirement. The Very Reverend John Rawlings has taken over and we will continue to support him in his new role.
A visit to the United Kingdom by teachers from the Sisterhood gave some of our Companions the chance to meet them and show them around schools in the United Kingdom. It is hoped that two more will be visiting soon.
Overseas the Brotherhood held their Great Conference. This is when they select new leaders, select new candidates for entry into the Brotherhood, Ordinations and say goodbye to others. A large and colourful event.
For the future we are planning to have a Section meeting of all groups to discuss the way ahead and what we can do for the Brothers. If you are interested and would like to come along, please contact any of our companions known to you, or call the Parish Office on 01822 616673.
Thank you to the Tavistock group for your continued support.
